I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Lying down naturally collapses the lungfields on the side of the chest in contact with the ground. If the lungs are already compromised by infection, heart failure, or neoplasia (cancer), the collapsed lungfields only compromise Taffy's ability to oxygenate her lungs further. Taffy's dyspnea (difficulty breathing) should prompt having her vet carefully auscultate (listen to) Taffy's chest and X-rays of of her chest are needed at your earliest convenience.
