Customer Question

I have an 11 month old Maltese/shih Tzu mix. He weighs about 4 pounds. He was fine when we went to bed last night and this morning, his back right leg won't allow him to stand up or walk. What could be the problem?

If we can rule out injury during the night, a congenital (present at birth) defect such as hip dysplasia resulting in subluxation (dislocation) of Cooper's hip or patellar (kneecap) luxation "locking" his leg should be considered. Please do something for me...I'd like you to face Cooper's rear end, reach around and under his hind legs and extend both of them behind him forcing him to stand on just his front legs. Do you see a difference in length between the two legs?

I'm just following up on our conversation about Cooper. How is everything going?
