Customer Question

I have a 1 year old Boykin Spaniel who was born with a luxated left lens. We found out by our vet as he developed snd his left eye remained cloudy. How does this effect his overall vision? Does this effect hiw he sees colors?

I am sorry to hear you are worried about Koda. I am a veterinarian and will do my best to help.

Do you know if the lens luxated forward into the front of the eye, or back? If it luxated forward, that is more likely to cause cloudiness, and can cause vision loss.

Dog are not completely colorblind, but they do not see color as well as we do. Having a lens luxation can affect vision, but any vision that remains should see color as normally as dogs see color.

Let me know what else I can help with or answer. Rebecca

It is forward and the vet said he was blind in his left eye. Is there a possibility he could have some vision in his left eye? He has been this way since he was a puppy. Does blindness effect depth perception
Expert:  Rebecca replied 2 years ago.

If he is blind, it could affect depth perception, but most dogs with vision in only one eye usually do well.

It is unlikely he has any vision in his left eye.
