Customer Question

I think my whippet may have eaten a 10mg tab of focalin. about 20 min. ago. So far he seems okay. I'm not positive that he did eat it.

Well, it's over an hour, no response from expert and my dog seems fine, so... Hopefully, my next use of this service will be better. I'll give it a week.

Hi, I'm a licensed veterinarian and I'll be happy to help.

Focalin is a stimulant (an amphetamine), intended to improve sharpness by speeding up mental function. However, in a small, nervous type breed of dog, this can have very serious consequences, including the following:

Abnormal heartbeat

Hypertension (high blood pressure)

and others.

If any adverse signs appear, including but not limited to those above, veterinary attention is necessary. If treated, this probably will not be life threatening, but it could be a serious situation if signs of a problem are ignored.

Thank you for answering. Rocco is a nervous dog, jumps at any sudden sound and will leave the area. It's over an hour, I've been watching and he is his usual self. It's quiet here today and he is alert, interacting, no hyperactivity, no panting, doesn't have a faster heartbeat... If anything changes, I will get him to Vet. Thanks again.
