Customer Question

Dog has been lethargic, not eating and if he does he throws it up. Just went to the vet on August 25th for his health exam. He received some vaccines and they checked a lump he had on his rear end. Today August 31st he woke me up to the most horrible sounding hacking I've ever heard. A couple food pieces were thrown up but it was mostly a fo***** ***** liquid. He did that for about 5 minutes. His breathing seems a bit labored, when I pick him up he makes these noises like I'm smashing his chest. I've only seen him pass stool twice since the vet visit and he usually goes twice a day.

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you with today. I do apologize that your question was not answered before. Different experts come online at various times; I just came online, read about your wee one’s situation, and wanted to help.

Again I do apologize that my colleagues could not aid you sooner, but can you tell me:

Can he keep water down?

Are his gums pink or pale/white? Moist or sticky?

Can you take a breathing rate (just count his breaths for 10seconds + multiply that by 6)?

If you press on his belly, does he have any discomfort, tenderness, or tensing?

Could he have eaten something he should not have (ie bones, toys, rocks, plants, chemicals, etc)?

Has he had any diarrhea?
