Customer Question

I am at a trade show and have my shih tzu with me ... she's normally fine when left alone, but she was barking and scratching at the door after I left, so I logged on to see if it was okay to give her part of an alprazolam tablet. After reading the site, I gave her about 1/3 of a 1 mg tablet & stayed with her for a few minutes before leaving again. That was about 2 hours ago. I will go check on her in about 30 minutes or so.

Alprazolam is very well-tolerated by dogs. Dosing usually ranges between 0.01-0.025 mg/lb. An overdose is expected to cause sedation, increased appetite, and transient ataxia ("drunken sailor") but not life-threatening symptoms. Please continue our conversation if you wish.
