I'm a with canine soulmates rescue and one of our fosters

Customer Question

Hello dr Dan. I'm a foster with canine soulmates rescue and one of our fosters has a cocker spaniel that went through heartworm treatment and is doing quite well but now when they try to pick her up she yelps in pain. I physically pushed on all parts of her back and stomach, check all of her legs and hips and no crying. Only when picked up. Any thoughts? I'm thinking it may be back pain?

Where are your hands when you lift her? On her belly? Ribs? Back end?
Has she shown any reduction in activity? Stretching?
Does she seem stiff when she first gets up?
Any changes in appetite? Any vomiting, black stools, or diarrhea?
Are her gums pink or pale/white?
