Hello. Thanks for writing in. If she is indeed in heat, then that confirms that she has not been spayed. Your vet can swab the vaginal cavity and evaluate the cells under the microscope to see if she is in heat. The cells will have a characteristic appearance if in heat. It is hard to determine if they are spayed from an x-ray. You won't be able to see the uterus or ovaries unless there is some pathology associated with it (i.e.; enlarged uterus from infection or ovarian cancer). An ultrasound would be a much better test. If she is in heat, the ovaries should show up really nice on an ultrasound. Your vet can also run some blood tests to check for certain hormone levels, but the ultrasound would still be a more definitive test. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Hope this helps.
