eye cleared up now has labored breathing, and excessive salvation, hardly eats and will drink water. walks and urinates and has bowel movements. jowls are swollen
9.5 year old black lab/german shepherd mix. has never been sick before. should we take him to the vet?

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Such a profoundly symptomatic dog does require the services of a vet. Labored breathing alone is enough of a reason for a thorough physical exam and X-rays of Ajax's chest. It's not a symptom indicative of any one disease but always can indicate life-threatening disorders.
It's not clear to me what "jowls are swollen" implies. Please clarify and please give me an update on Ajax.
