Yesterday I was playing ball with my dog. She dropped her ball

Customer Question

Yesterday I was playing ball with my dog. She dropped her ball in a day lilly bed and ripped up some of the leaves. Over night she started vomiting and is very lethargic. Should I find a vet to take her to or will this pass?

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you with your wee one today.
Now while cats are the species at major risk from lily poisoning, this plant can potentially cause harm to dogs too. So, it would be safest to err on the side of caution if she is already showing these signs. Therefore, it'd be ideal to have a check with her vet at this stage. They can test a urine or blood sample to just make sure this isn't causing her kidneys any issue (especially as she is older and could have underlying kidney dysfunction or reduced function). If that is clear, then they can use injectable anti-vomiting medication to just settle her stomach and get her feeling back to normal.
Please take care,
Dr. B.
