Customer Question

Our 6-year old GSP recently was hospitalized with these symptoms: Dehydration, lack of appetite, front legs tremors and general lethargy. Tests done included general blood screening and Lyme Disease tests. Both came back negative. Our dog received a IV and returned home. He seems better and is eating ( but not nearly the food intake what he was before (3 cups a day). Not as lethargic but not himself. Cooper is in very good shape and receives a lot of exercise. Weight is @50lbs. Front legs are still shaking. What could be causing these issues?

I am sorry to hear you are worried about Cooper this holiday weekend. I am a veterinarian and will do my best to help.
One thing that could cause these symptoms is a neck or spine problem like a bulging disc or pinched nerve. Is he getting any pain or anti inflammatory medications? If this were my own dog, I would try pain medication like tramadol or gabapentin, anti inflammatory (steroid or nonsteroidal), and maybe taking some Xrays.
Let me know how is he doing, and what else I can answer.

Hi Tom,

I'm just following up on our conversation about Cooper. How is everything going?
