The right side of my dog's face has been drooping

Customer Question

The right side of my dog's face has been drooping for about 3 weeks. Could it be a stroke?

Hi, I can help you with your question today.
A facial droop can be due to facial nerve paralysis (cranial nerve 7). This is not uncommon in older dogs. This can be idiopathic (meaning we do not find an underlying cause) or it can be secondary to an ear infection.
I recommend having Tucker evaluated by your local vet. I would start with a physical exam looking specifically at the ears and looking for signs of problems with any other cranial nerves.
If we determine that he seems to have idiopathic facial nerve paralysis, we can only wait to see if he improves. Most cases improve over 3-6 weeks, so we may see him get somewhat better over the next 3 weeks.
Please let me know if you have further questions. I am happy to continue until I provide the service that you seek.

Hi Jene',

I'm just following up on our conversation about Tucker. How is everything going?
