I forgot to give my Miniature Schnauzer female her insulin

Customer Question

I forgot to give my Miniature Schnauzer female her insulin injection after she ate at 8am. What should I do now?

Hello, I'm Dr. Deb. I'll do my best to help you today.
I'm sorry for this concern for Sydney. As you might suspect, you won't be the first owner that this has happened to:)
As I see it, you have two options:
1. Wait until her next scheduled insulin dosage and give her the amount your normally would; don't increase it in other words.
She may experience (and probably will experience) higher blood sugar levels for a few hourstoday but this shouldn't cause significant issues for her.
2. Give 1/2 of her normal dose now and then her regular dose later today.
If this were my case and my patient, I'd advise option #1.
I hope this helps. Deb
