Customer Question

My dog has been crying all night when she jumps out of the chair. She absolutely has not gotten hurt and she is in heat but she's never had a problem with that either?? And now she's acting like it hurts her to move or lay down!! She acts like it's her hip but she hasn't got hurt! I cannot find anything online that says her female parts can hurt! Can dogs get appendicitis? I'm just extremely worried and my vet doesn't open till morning

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Crying when jumping up or down or simply moving about in a 5 year old suggests myelopathy (spinal cord disorder) such as intervertebral disk disease or perhaps her hips are painful due to osteoarthritis (hip dysplasia). I don't believe that her behavior is related to her heat period and, no, dogs don't have an appendix. Her vet will want to perform a thorough physical exam paying particular attention to her spine and hips. X-rays of those areas may be recommended. I'm sorry that I can't be more specific for you from here. I, too, would need to examine such a patient.
