Did your vet mention if she was anemic at all?

Thanks very much for all the information. Short of surgery, the ultrasound is the best way to rule out a biliary obstruction. The pancreas may be affecting this, but I would also be concerned that her liver is not functioning correctly either. The very high ALT suggests excessive liver cell damage, but the low albumin could be because the liver is not functioning. I would recommend a bile acids test to check liver function if it hasn't already been done. Her TLI is probably low because she doesn't have much functioning pancreatic tissue. The high ALP and TBil are most likely due to obstruction of the common bile duct due to the abscess on the pancreas. It seems like they have a diagnosis there with the pancreatic abscess. I would still want to know if the liver is functioning or not, though. I would consider a bile acids test and check a coagulation profile. If the bile acids is elevated and the coagulation profile is normal, I would try to get a liver biopsy. That is the only way you can get a firm diagnosis on the cause of a liver issue. I assume that she has been on intravenous fluids and intravenous antibiotics? It may help to supplement pancreatic enzymes as well. It seems to be, though, that if there is a pancreatic abscess, they are going to need to go in surgically to clean it out. That would be the best time to get a biopsy on the liver. German shepherd aversion to water. She is a 3 year old
She is a 3 year old spayed GSD who 16 days ago vomited up dog kibble and had mucous diarrhea. We took her to the vet. She started avoiding water then. Placed on bland diet. Xrays showed gas and water mostly in stomach and small bowel. Labs OK except for slightly low platelets and high retic count. Stool testing normal. Spleen enlarged on exam told this was common finding with GSD. Given cerenia injection. Placed on flagyl, reglan and gabapentin. Given SubQ fluid. Taken in again, ultrasound showed enlarged spleen. Repeat imaging ruled out Bloat. We were told this was likely gastritis with ileus possibly due to new dog food started in February (previously on Royal Canin switched to Solid Gold High Protein). Texas GI panel labs were all normal. Still with aversion to water. Eats OK and stools improved but only drinks chicken broth not water. Taken in again ACTH test normal. Had barium swallow study: normal. The best she felt was after barium swallow study: went back to eating and drinking water, but within 2 days went back to water aversion. Not sure what to do next.
