My dog - border collie - has been panting and licking the carpets, and his bedding and looks generally unwell - this has come on all of a sudden in the past 3 hours - he also has a dry nose - he did eat his supper today but has not drank much water afterwards - his symptoms were exacerbated after he ate - he was generally well before this

Hello and thank you for asking your question on just answer. My name isXXXXX will try to help.

It sounds like he has an upset stomach.

Is he vomiting or having diarrhea?

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
No he's not vomitingn/no diarrhea but we took him outside and he is eating grass and lots of it! He just doesn't seem able to bring anything back up

Is he retching or having dry heaves?

How much does he weigh?

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
He's not wretching - he just keeps licking and panting - I'm not sure how much he weighs I would guess about 25lbs or so - he is not my dog so I didn't go to his check up last year as he is my partner's dog

Ok lets try this:

Do not let him eat anymore grass, or have any food or water, right now.

You can give him 1/2 of a pepcid ac tablet to reduce the acid levels in his stomach.

You can also give him a teaspoon of pepto bismal.

That should settle his stomach.

Do not let him have anything else by mouth until he is feeling better.

He weighs 40lbs - hope this helps - thanks

We don't have pepto bismal here in the UK so will Milk of Magnesia do?
Sure that will work. Try a teaspoon of that. Pepto bismal is great. I didn't know you did not have it there. : (

thank you so much - my partner was quite concerned as this dog is usually playful and full of life and even watches soccer on the TV!
Ok if Brodie is not improved in the next few hours, let me know and we will try something else. But no food or water now. : )
