Can Robitussin DM be given to dogs that have kennel cough,

Resolved Question:

Can Robitussin DM be given to dogs that have kennel cough, if so what is the dosage. I have an eight month boxer who is about 63 pounds, he is eating, playing, and being his crazy self, he just has this nasty cough when he gets overly excited.

Hi there,

Robitussin DM is used by some off-label for kennel cough. It should only be used for a dry, unproductive cough in a dog that has been diagnosed with kennel cough.

Published dosage for dogs is 1-2mg/kg every 6-8 hours, so for a 63# XXXXX this would mean about 25-50mg (8-16mL, or 0.25-0.5oz) every 6-8 hours.

Hope that helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions.
