Dr. Christian K. :

Hello,

This is Dr. Christian. Welcome to JustAnswer.

Dr. Christian K. :

What situation are you trying to treat? How much does Ziggy weigh? Does he have any other medical conditions or take any other medications? What else have you tried?

JACUSTOMER-vdd6hx7b- :

he has small red bumps on his body mainly around his neck and belly, he seems to be itching all over though, i gave him a bath with 4% chlorhexidine shampoo earlier, he has no medical condotions and weights 20 lbs

Dr. Christian K. :

It certainly sounds like an allergic reaction. Cetirizine isn't very effective in dogs in most studies but benadryl works very well. You can give 25mg of benadryl every 8 hours for the next 24 hours. It might make him sleepy but is safe. If he continues to have problems or starts to worsen then he might need a steroid injection from a vet.

JACUSTOMER-vdd6hx7b- :

we live kinda far away from a store and don't have benadryl would the cetirizine help at all until morning and is it safe?

JACUSTOMER-vdd6hx7b- :

what about metacam? i have some from when he had surgery

Dr. Christian K. :

Metacam is a pain medication and won't help this situation. I don't recommend ceterizine. It has more side effects and can be dangerous. Perhaps a neighbor has some benadryl (diphenhydramine)?

JACUSTOMER-vdd6hx7b- :

ok making some calls thanks

Dr. Christian K. :

You are welcome. Good luck.

JACUSTOMER-vdd6hx7b- :
