HI there,

Welcome to Just Answer.

You gave a very detailed question -- and yes -- this is normal. The lining of the intestine comes out slightly and is a bright red to pink color. It should go back inside when done.

but she also licks her anus alot sometimes and even though shes clean she rubs it on the floor . i mean could she be irritated inside
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. BJ Hughes, Dog Veterinarian replied 8 years ago

If she is licking that area constantly -- then there may be another issue at hend.Typically not inside -- but either with the anla glands or with allergies (atopic dermatitis).

You could try to utilize hydrocortisone cream 3 times daily -- but if she is lickig everything off -- it may be better to go to an antihistmine (eg benedryl dosed at 1 mg. per pound every 8 hours). You may need to see yoru vet if these simple things do not seem to help.

Anal gland issues are frequently seen with allergies -- and your vet would best be able to discuss this with you. But the simpel things mentioned here may help -- if not -- they will give your vet more to work with.

thanx . she did have tapeworms about 2 months or so ago and they dewormed her. she is also on revolution. so do u think the worms are gone or could still be bothering her ?
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. BJ Hughes, Dog Veterinarian replied 8 years ago

Well -- there are worms and protozoans (single celled parasites) that can affect the intestine -- but generally diarrhea or weight loss are noted.

So I would not jump towards this -- Another factor with anal gland issues is diet -- a high quality food with addition of fiber (eg canned pumpkin) can result in better stools which will tend to express the anal glands (which is what they are there for).

So this is an adiitional thought.
