Good Evening!

I have 7 4 Week yr old puppies and I was told to feed them 4 times a day with mushy puppy food (w/ water). How much should the portions be? Right now, they aren't that much but 1/4 cup of food. Is this ok? Should I feed them more? Also, how old should I start training them to go outside? Can I use the puppy pads they sell in stores? I thought they had a few more weeks before training. Let me know if puppy pads are safe to use around them, I notice them chewing on the towels I have and cautious if I do happen to use puppy pads they would probably tear them up. What are good toys for puppies to satisfy their chewing? They love the stuffed dog toy I have in there, just a couple would play with it.

Hello,

At this age, I would offer them canned puppy food every 4-6 hours and then top them off with puppy milk replacer as they typically are not weaned off milk completely until they are 5-6 weeks old. You can feed them until they're full at this point and then once ~ 6-8 weeks old and they're on all dry puppy just feed based on the recommendations on the bag.

You can take them outside to start teaching them to urinate/ defecate after each feeding and then keep puppy pads in the house to help keep the floor cleaner. If they are chewing on the puppy pads and trying to eat the material, then don't keep them. In that case, I would just leave towels or nothing if they chew everything.

You can get little rubber chew toys and leave those out- small enough to chew but not small enough that they can swallow. Putting them in the freezer first will often help sooth the gums during teething.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

What's a good puppy canned food brand name? As well as milk replacement?
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Gary, Dog Veterinarian replied 8 years ago
Puppy Milk Replacer- Nurturall is a good brand name.

As for food, personally I feed my animals Iams. Science diet, Eukanuba and Purina are all good brands as well. Look for the AAFCO logo on the bag to make sure they've been tested and regulated by the feed control offices.
