Customer Question
I have a 9 year...
I have a 9 year old XXXXX XXXXX, with crutiate ligament injury for a year now. Been on steriods and other joints tablets but is still as lame as when it first happend. Doesn't like water, as hydrotheropy was mentioned by my current vet. It was investigated and found not to have melignancy in the joints. Do you have any other suggestions please, as he is in pain again, while feeling sorry for himself and spending alot of time just sitting?

I'm not exactly sure, but it appears he had a lateral suture repair.

My main concern would be that he tore his medial meniscus. This is the most common cause of residual lameness in a repaired knee. Unfortunately, that means going back in surgically and removing that torn meniscus. This should be done by the previous surgeon and hopefully you'll get some sort of a deal given that he never recovered.

The meniscus was probably partially torn at the time of the first surgery and that is why he never recovered. Ideally we'll remove that meniscus during the surgery initially if any sign of damage. If you don't, then this is a chronic source of pain- often more painful than the initial ACL tear.

Other than another surgery, there is nothing but masking the pain with chronic pain meds.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
