Dog: stopped eating..diarrhea..small tiny black stools earlier, sleeps…

Customer Question
14 yr old golden retriver...
14 yr old golden retriver, stopped eating 4+ days ago, but drinks water, use to eat non-stop, black running diarrhea, small tiny black stools earlier, sleeps most of the day, walked w/me on Saturday with no apparent difficulties. Dog ate a long black plastic BBQ tool about a week. Eating anythng he can find is not uncommon but eating this tool was very weird even for him.

HI there.

I am very worried about Nugget. Black diarrhea indicates an upper GI bleed. This could come from this tool that was ingested or it could be coming from a polyp or intestinal cancer that is bleeding and has broken off. Because of his age, it is very important that you get him to your vet quickly. I say this because if this is a perforation due to this tool infested, this could be life threatening if left untreated, It does not appear to me that there is any home remedy that will help Nugget.

Take him to your vet today if at all possible.

Good Luck!!
