Thanks for the question. Allow me to ask you a few questions so I can assist you better.

1. Is your dog spayed? If so, how old was she when she was spayed?

2. Is the lump on the nipple itself or under the skin by the nipple?

3. About how big is the lump?

No she has not been sprayed. It seeems to be next to the nimple... It is approx 2 inches in size...It just appeared out of no where. Could she have been bitten by a insect?
Dog Veterinarian: Justin, Veterinarian replied 8 years ago

Thanks for the information.

Yeah, it could be an insect bit or local infection, but my biggest concern would be mammary gland cancer (MGC). Dogs that are unspayed are at a much higher risk for development of MGC than those spayed at a younger age. I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian for an examination first thing in the morning. They can palpate the mass and take a biopsy to determine if it is cancer. If it does turn out to be cancer then surgery to remove the mass as well as spaying her is recommended.

I hope this helps.

If it was cancer, wouldn't it have appeared over time instead of just in the last couple of days?
Dog Veterinarian: Justin, Veterinarian replied 8 years ago
Not necessarily. I have seen plenty of patients that develop these masses seemingly 'overnight'. Either the owner didn't notice them until they became a certain size, they grew very rapidly, or there is an area of inflammation/infection within the tumor that caused it to swell up very rapidly.

Okay, thank you. Do you think she will be okay until we get her to the vets office this morning. Its 4:37 AM my time (EST)
Customer reply replied 8 years ago
We had a previous dog that had pyrometra, could this cause the same spytoms(spelling)
Dog Veterinarian: Justin, Veterinarian replied 8 years ago

Yes, she'll be fine. The only concern is if the mass was to rupture. This can occur with some tumors or if she has developed an infection, such as, mastitis. If this does occur, just try to keep the area clean until you can get her to the vet.

As for your pyometra question; no, a pyometra will not cause a mammary mass.
