Hello there,

Is he able to drink and keep water down?

Did he get into anything you know of? Garbage, table scraps?

Does he appear in pain or distress?

no garbage----and he always eats table scraps
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. Scott, Veterinarian replied 8 years ago
If he eats table scraps, anything too high in fat or salt will easily cause severe gastroenteritis or pancreatitis, especially in a small dog. If he was fed something off the table last night, that is the likely cause if he is vaccinated and has not been around any sick dogs. if water stays down, there should not be an obstruction in the intestines. Pepcid AC or Prilosec OTC can be used at 5 mg per 20 pounds body weigh every 24 hours to settle the stomach. Pepto Bismal can be used at 1 tablespoon per 20 pounds body weight every 8 hours as needed to coat the stomach and slow the diarrhea. Water should be offered as long as it stays down. If the medicine stays down an hour or two, small amounts of a bland diet can be offered until the gut heals. Boiled chicken and rice, no bones, can be used. If the medicine does not stay down or the vomiting continues, the dog should be examined today if possible.
