Hello,
Welcome to Just Answer. Try giving him a treat/reward when you call him and he comes back to you. This way he will listen to you and will want to come to you instead of chasing something in the woods. Hope this helps,

sorry, but i have been doing what you suggest for weeks now, and until she gets distracted in the woods etc..i call till i am hoarse and when she finally reappears give her treat and try to look pleased(with difficulty) but this selective hearing is extending a 1 hour walk into anything up to 2 hours waiting for her to come back. at the moment i can see no alternative to keeping her on a long lead and i am reluctant to do this as she really loves her walk..any other ideas ?
Dog Veterinarian: Dr. B, Veterinarian replied 8 years ago
I am not a behaviorist, but it seems to me that there is no other option besides a long lead. Sorry I could not help you more.
