I am sorry to hear about this concern.
But, you need a different approach.
Unfortunately, although there is such thing as the dog flu (which, like a cold, is viral), your pet is much more likely suffering from a respiratory infection. Dog's tend to frequently get bacterial upper respiratory infections. This needs an oral antibiotic, and although some pets can get over it (even kennel cough), some will get progressively more sick.

So, absolutely, if you have been observing symptoms of a cold/flu, need to get him into a veterinarian for appropriate medications. Not worth something brewing into a pneumonia, making treatment much more difficult.
