Customer Question
Ac is not working ...

Ac is not working

Mechanic's Assistant: Have you checked the Freon level?

Yes there is none there is a hole in the condenser but I wanted to check the condition on the compressor so I wanted to put 12v and ground to the connector to manually cycle the compressor to make sure it was not locked up but, the connector at the compressor has 12v and ground there whether or not the switch is on or not in the cabin...

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model/year of your Dodge?

2010 charger r/t

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?

Yes. checked to make sure I had a good ground at the connector with a volt meter across the 2 pins and to my surprise 12v was there when the ac was not on in the cabin and so assuming the pressure switch was stuck closed I disconnected the connector from the switch and still have 12v

Dodge Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 2 months ago

ok the circuit board inside the TIPM is going to be the issue. It is commanding the ac all the time.

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
Your saying the internal relay in the tipm is stuck closed?
Dodge Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 2 months ago

its not a relay, its a circuit board that controls the output

Customer reply replied 2 months ago
Ok i'll give that a try i happen to have one

Customer reply replied 2 months ago
What trigger the tipm to send voltage the the compressor clutch? Could that be stuck closed?
Dodge Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 2 months ago

the PCM

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
pcm is bad?
Dodge Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 2 months ago

look at the diagram, it starts with a command from the control panel to ask the pcm to trigger the power by a CAN bus to the ac clutch through the TIPM.

how do i go and find the ROOT cause to this problem? I am not able to decipher the diagram

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
I do but i believe it only reads the engines sensors
Dodge Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 2 months ago

it might read the ac request signal. go through all of the parameters and see if it does

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
It does not
Dodge Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 2 months ago

ok. the only other thing you can do is to remove the ac control panel and read ohms across the contacts for the switch to see if its stuck on.

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Dodge Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 2 months ago

if there is 12 volts at the connector and the clutch isn't spinning. you have a bad compressor also. on top of whats keeping the 12 volts there all the time.

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 2 months ago
Im sure the clutch is bad but having power and ground that will not switch off makes me not want to proceed with just changing the clutch if i have to put a bunch more money into it to get the ac to work
Dodge Mechanic: david craig, Auto Mechanic replied 2 months ago

that why we need to see if the ac is being requested when the button is off and on.
