Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

ok

you still have air in the system. you need to get a pressure bleeder to get the remaining air out of the system. vacuuming and having someone push the pedal is not enough to get the air out since it is so big and the lines are long.

you can rent a pressure bleeder at a parts store. you fill the master, put the cap from the pressure bleeder on it and then pressurize it with air at the cap. it will force all the air out. bleed one wheel at a time. it is the only way we can get them bled with all the trucks.

I have one and did it. No luck.
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

did you bench bleed the master before installing it??

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I recognized if I crimp the hoses going to the caliper the brake gets stiff. When I remove the clamps it the break goes down again.
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I did.
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

which caliper?

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Both front.
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

If you remove one at a time does one still hold good or do they both fail

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Even tried one at a time.
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

are they rebuilt or new calipers?? sounds like they are drawing air into the system form the piston seals.

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
If I crimp just the left it holds, if I crimp just the right it holds. Just don't make sense. That's the reason why I replaced both side calipers.
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Reman is the only thing available.
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Not sure if I mentioned that if the truck is not running the peddle never goes down.
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

yep, thats the way it is when it is not running and you have air. as soon as the booster works, the pedal drops.

the air is at the front calipers, no doubt about that.

brake hoses and lines good and tight, no leaks??

Roy

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Seams when it supplies vacume to the booster that's when the peddle sinks, you pump it and it gets hard then sinks again.
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

thats air in the system.

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Rubber hoses brand new. No leaks
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I have ran about a gallon of fluid through it already.
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

the fact that it drops with the engine running and holding the pedal concerns me. that tells me it is loosing internal pressure and that comes from the master cylinder.

Roy

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
When I get under the truck and someone applies the break you can see the calipers compress and release.
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

they release while the pedal is held down???

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I replaced it with a new one, no luck and replaced it with a reman and same issue. I have one coming tomorrow that comes as a set. Master and break booster together. Someone had mentioned that the rod in the break booster is not adjusted right.
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
they do release. You can see it compressing then it releases right away
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

you should never have to touch that rod. if that was the issue you would still have a firm hard pedal but either low pedal or high pedal.

try it and see. it sounds like the master is bleeding off pressure internally.

Roy

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
If I pinch the hoses just a little bit the peddle holds.
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

ok

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I think the same way but every time i change it I have the same issue.
Why why when I crimp the hose it holds pressure?
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

it could be bleeding off through the calipers. the piston seals may be drawing air into the caliper when applying. you stop that process by clamping them off.

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
The original calipers did it. The new calipers (went through 2 sets) did it.
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
One thing I did notice when I replaced the pads in the front the outside pad was worn out to the bottom and the inside pad was still brand new.
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

that is from the caliper mounts and slides. the outer should be away from the rotor just as the inner.

can you post a picture of the caliper mounts and caliper on this post??

I have to put a child to bed. be back in about 15-20 minutes

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
Ok no problem, I understand.
I will get the photos
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
By the way my bleeders from the calipers are at the top.
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

good, thats where they belong

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

does the caliper move freely along the mount???

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
It does not. I know what you mean. This one seams to be stationed in one place.
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

if you press back the piston, the caliper should slide back and forth

Roy

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
It does not. The way it mounts is really weird
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

I know, you have the wedge and the attaching bolt. did you wire brush off all the rust and put lube on the areas it moves?

Roy

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I did not brush and lube it. Looked clean to the eye.
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

Ok. It feels like it doesn't have enough pressure for the front calipers
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

no, when you block them off it has sufficient pressure. you have issue at both front wheels.

Roy

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I was wondering maybe when the master cylinder shaft travels more it bleeds . Because when I block it is not traveling
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

no, not the case.

your issue is at the front wheels

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
I know when I slightly blocked the front caliper left a right the pedal seems not to sink
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

I know. you mentioned that a couple of times and I told you about the calipers could be sucking air.

Roy

what I do I bled last night and there's no air coming out of them
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

I got a note from customer service that you still wanted help. I had opted out but I guess no one picked it up.

when you push on the pedal, can you see the brake hoses swell??

Roy

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 3 months ago
No but I have replaced the hoses to
Dodge Mechanic: roy, import/domestic specialest replied 3 months ago

the fact you clamp them off and you have a good pedal says your issue is at those front wheels. I think you need to start over with the calipers and hoses. use new calipers not rebuilt.

Roy
