I have a 1999...

I have a 1999 Dodge ram 1500 5.9L while I'm driving it, it can be at random times. Sometimes 2 miles down the road sometimes 50 miles. But eventually it will do it. It'll kind of stall out. It won't die, but it'll lose all power as if it is running too rich and trying to cut back. I have to put my pedal to the floor and you'll hear a muffled gurgle and then it'll rev up and start driving again.

Mechanic's Assistant: Will the headlights turn on? Is the battery fully charged?

Yes and yes

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Ram 1500 yourself? What have you tried so far?

I have replaced the fuel pump and filter, the fuel lines, the spark plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor, fuel injectors, and air intake

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

I don't think so.

Sure. I know you can't give me a 100% true answer without physically having the truck.

YES thats correct. One moment while I type up your answer.

Ask Your Own Dodge Question

The most likely possible cause for this condition are the following..

Also, in some cases, the TPS can go bad as well causing this issue too. However, this is not as likely as some of the items I listed above.

02 sensors have also all been changed. So possibly those position sensors?

YES, the throttle position sensor. It has just one on the side of the throttle body.

I also already replaced the throttle position sensor. Maybe its the crankshaft or camshaft sensors

Ok, then yes, I would suspect the cam or crank sensor causing this issue.

Not likely to be a vacuum line issue?

No, that would only affect the idle of the engine.. it wont affect the engine over 1000 rpms.

HeyCustomer Everything I'm looking up is showing my truck only has a crankshaft position sensor..not a camshaft position sensor. I've called multiple shops all of which say there isn't a camshaft position sensor for my truck

Can you post your VIN for me?

What Customers are Saying:

I AM VERY GLAD THAT I TOOK A CHANCE ON YOUR PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS. I WAS SUCCESSFUL IN REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP. MY TRUCK RUNS LIKE A CLOCK. IT RUNS LIKE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. NO LUNGING FORWARD, THE TURBO REACTS THE SECOND I STOMP ON THE GAS, AND IT HAS A LOT MORE POWER AND EVEN SOUNDS BETTER TO ME. IT SAVED ABOUT $500.00 BY DOING THE WORK MYSELF. I GIVE YOU ALL THE CREDIT FOR YOUR DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM, JUST FROM THE SYMPTONS I GAVE YOU OVER THE e MAIL. I WILL USE YOUR WEB SITE AGAIN AND REFER MY FRIENDS. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE HELP.
