I think your bank 1 oxygen sensor is the problem which is the front sensor on the drivers side. Unplug both of the front oxygen sensors and check to see if that stops vehicle from blowing smoke if so I'd go ahead and replace the bank 1 sensor. Let me know how it goes or if you have more questions, thanks.

I did as you said. They are both unplugged. I did only see 2 though, but it still keeps smoking regardless
Dodge Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 7 months ago

Did smoke and code happen at the same time?

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
I honestly don't know I bought the truck at a sale
Dodge Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 7 months ago

I think the two probably unrelated. This code you are getting means vehicle is running lean "not enough fuel or too much air" so it shouldn't be causing smoke, I think the smoke may be oil related. Why do you say it is fuel related?

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
It's white smoke
Dodge Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 7 months ago

That may not mean anything, too much fuel would be black, oil would be blue, and white smoke is either coolant or nothing. How many miles have you put on vehicle since you bought it?

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
None really maybe 50-100 at most
Dodge Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 7 months ago

Does smoke have a sweet smell like coolant?

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
No it smells like fuel
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
Exhaust has a lot of black residue more then normal
Dodge Mechanic: Dan, Technician replied 7 months ago

Ill open question up to see if someone else has some ideas.

Ok thanks. First the code, P0171-Fuel system lean bank 1/ sensor 1. What this means is that the PCM thinks the driver's side oxygen sensor before the Catalytic convertor is not getting enough fuel. So, that being said, the PCM is going to start injecting more fuel. If it sees no change in the oxygen sensor readings, it will dump more fuel. It will just keep adding more to the quantity of fuel till the max setpoint is reached. There are two ways you can go about isolating the problem area. #1 involves a scantool that can monitor data in which you will have to look at what the readings are for the 1/1 O2 sensor. #2 involves replacing the O2 sensor and then retest. Questions?

Another thing to consider is that there could be an intake leak on the driver's side. This will cause a fuel system lean code too. To find out, get a can of brake cleaner and spray around were the intake manifold contacts the cylinder head while the engine is running. If the sound of the engine changes or the engine acts like it is going to die, you got an intake leak.
