I'm having a cluster problem I have all lights and bells

Customer Question

Hey I'm having a cluster problem I have all lights and bells working but no gauges. I checked the voltage from the fuse box one side is reading 25v but the other is reading 5v. This all happened after I installed an air conditioner compressor

first, lets try something simple,,

Remove both battery cables from the battery, turn on the ignition, touch and hold both the - and the + cables together for 5 seconds, turn off the ignition, then re-install them back to the battery

let me know if this fixed the problem

Hello Chris,

Sounds like the alternator is being commanded on too hard.

Did you touch the alternator wiring while doing the compressor?

Did you have the battery disconnected while doing this job?

I did have the battery disconnected while doing it. But the alternator wire does travel right by the compressor. What can I do to fix this issue
Expert:  Gary replied 2 months ago.

Ok, does the alternator wiring look damaged or disconnected in any way?

Customer: replied 2 months ago.
The wire to the alternator looks good. I changed out the ignition switch today and now when I turn the key off my gauges move for a split second but still no working gauges

Hi Chris,

I would say the cluster has shut down from over voltage.

You need to get the vehicle to an auto electrician.

With 25v on the positive rail, you will damage other parts.
