My temp gauge isn't working at all. I've had to replace

Customer Question
My temp gauge isn't...

My temp gauge isn't working at all. I've had to replace heater core but it stopped working a day before I started working on that. I've done replaced the thermostat and 1 of the sensors.

Mechanic's Assistant: Which particular sensor are you asking about? And have any trouble codes been triggered?

The temp gauge sensor that is next to the thermostat,no codes have popped up as of yet.

Mechanic's Assistant: What is the model/year of your Dodge?

95 Dodge Ram 1500

Mechanic's Assistant: Are you fixing your Ram 1500 yourself? What have you tried so far?

Yes, I have done all the work on my truck myself. So far I have replaced thermostat, sensor and heater core but like I said the gauge stopped working before I replaced heater core.

Mechanic's Assistant: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Not that I can think of. Thanks

What color wires go to this connector?

Hello!

If you dont know the color wires going to the temp sender, dont worry about. We get still continue..

Ask Your Own Dodge Question
Customer reply replied 1 year ago
I'm not right at the moment what color the wires are.
Dodge Mechanic: Amedee, Dodge Technician replied 1 year ago

Violet/Yellow and a brown/tan or black wire.

The Violet/Yellow should have 9 to 12 volts with the key on. This comes from the instrument cluster. The other wire should have a good ground. If there is no voltage on the Violet/Yellow, then either the wire is open or broken of the cluster is bad and will need to be replaced.

Here is a wiring diagram of this circuit.

What Customers are Saying:

I AM VERY GLAD THAT I TOOK A CHANCE ON YOUR PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS. I WAS SUCCESSFUL IN REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP. MY TRUCK RUNS LIKE A CLOCK. IT RUNS LIKE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. NO LUNGING FORWARD, THE TURBO REACTS THE SECOND I STOMP ON THE GAS, AND IT HAS A LOT MORE POWER AND EVEN SOUNDS BETTER TO ME. IT SAVED ABOUT $500.00 BY DOING THE WORK MYSELF. I GIVE YOU ALL THE CREDIT FOR YOUR DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM, JUST FROM THE SYMPTONS I GAVE YOU OVER THE e MAIL. I WILL USE YOUR WEB SITE AGAIN AND REFER MY FRIENDS. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE HELP.
