Customer Question

98 dodge Durango 5.2l 4x4 trans. will not shift into OD no speedo. I changed speed sensor in diff and output on trans as well as abs mod.this turned abs and brake light only. with scan tool hooked up still not reading veh speed and trans not up shifting for high speed. it acts like its in D3 but its not. Also I disconnect output speed sensor and probe connector and I getting a voltage reading of approx. 2.5 volts on both pins. I believe problem is electrical but need diagnostic flow chart with power and ground checks to be sure. please help thanks

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

If the speedometer isn't working it's either because the ABS module isn't operating or it isn't seeing a signal from the rear speed sensor. You may have a bad module, a loss of power or ground to the module, or there may be an issue with the rear speed sensor wiring.

Do you have a scan tool capable of communication with the ABS module?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Yea but it appears to be blocked it tells me no communication. So I'm stuck for info
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 7 months ago.

The ABS module isn't operating if there is no communication. You'll need to test it's power and ground feeds and if ok then the module can be condemned.

Do you have any diagrams for it and what about the trans not shifting in to overdrive
,could bad module have any thing to do with it
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 7 months ago.

It wouldn't go into fourth gear if it doesn't know how fast the vehicle is traveling.

Is it RWAL or AWAL ABS?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
The module??
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 7 months ago.

Is it an RWAL or AWAL ABS system?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Abs system.
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 7 months ago.

Correct. What type of ABS system do you have?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Rear wheel sorry
Expert:  sprinkles08 replied 7 months ago.

The power feeds are the red/dark green wires in pins 7 and 14, the red/dark blue in pin 4. The black/red wires in pins 6 and 13 are ground.

Powers and grounds check out, so that means modules bad?
