Hello and welcome!

My name isCustomerand I can assist you with your question.

Expert:  Amedee replied 9 months ago.

I assume the starter is not getting battery voltage with the key in the crank position correct?

Are you looking for possible causes or would you like me to walk you through this diagnoses?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
I will do some initial diagnoses and get back to you.
A shop replaced the starter and battery last week on my daughters car when I was out of town. I requested the old battery back, and it is still good, the starter APPEARS to have been replaced. everything appears tight. I did some preliminary wiring checks, relays and fuses. All appear good. I have a spare ECM which I tried and no joy. Now I think I am looking at TRS maybe, or ???
FYI, I have another Neon with is running, and a dismantled Neon which was running when wrecked, so I have lots of parts to interchange for testing.

Ok, sounds good. I will be here when your ready to continue.

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Ok, I disconnected the battery and left if disconnected for a while. Reconnected, and starts fine. Most likely causes of intermittent outage like this?
Expert:  Amedee replied 9 months ago.

That would be the PCM sir. The computer controls the starter relay.

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Okay. Should I replace with my spare PCM then?
Expert:  Amedee replied 9 months ago.

You could certainly do that sir.

However, I would recommend to diagnose first before replacing anything.

But it is up to you.

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
I swapped the PCM as a prior test and this did not make a difference.
Expert:  Amedee replied 9 months ago.

Ok, then yes, it needs to be diagnosed.
