Code P1694 is a code the PCM will set to let you know that there is a code stored in another module.
From the sound of what you described, your torque converter is not staying locked in lock up mode.
What can I check to be sure what's wrong?
The first thing would be a scan tool that can read the other modules, like the factory DRBIII.
And monitor torque converter lock up while driving.
p1693 is there also...what is a normal torque converter readings?
Normally, it locks up and does not unlock unless you touch the brake pedal, or slow down below a certain speed once it has gone into lock up.
