Hello, my name is***** the brake lights are not working then this is almost always a problem with the brake light switch. The shift lock is operated by the brake light switch input. If the brake switch fails or if there is a circuit issue then that will cause this. You can test the circuit with a voltage meter. Did you plan on fixing this yourself?

Is there anything to do that can temperaley override this so I can drive it.

If the problem is the switch you can bypass it by taking off the connector at the switch and place a jumper wire between the terminals. If it is the circuit though this will not help and it will need to be diagnosed.
