I just had the timing belt on my 2005 Dodge Neon replaced

Customer Question

Hi, I just had the timing belt on my 2005 Dodge Neon replaced and the mechanic discovered a bent valve. I don't have the funds to fix it yet and was wondering how long I can use my car without adding permanent damage.
JA: How many miles are on the timing belt? Have you ever had to change it before?
Customer: Not sure, I've only had the car for two years. I've used that timing belt for about 35,000 miles.
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I'm not knowledgeable beyond checking fluids and changing my oil. A trusted mechanic pointed out the bent valve and I hope to have him fix it, but what warning signs should I be looking out for?
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: The car itself has roughly 187,000 on it.
