Engine runs rough after getting up to temperature.

Customer Question

engine runs rough after getting up to temperature. Backfiring, misfiring, but does not stall.
JA: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on?
Customer: hard to tell from inside, but maybe engine compartment or beneath chassis
JA: What year is your Chassis?
Customer: 2000, engine has 234200 miles; spark plugs replaced w/I past 45 days and coil kit replaced in past 2 years. same symptoms 2 years ago and with spark plugs 45 days ago.
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: like I said in last reply, but I don't wish to put too much $$$ into repair.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: what about exhaust back-up into cylinders or bad catiletic (sp) converter; air pollution components, gas filter, etc?
