Engine is rattling when idling - goes away when you hit the

Customer Question

Engine is rattling when idling - goes away when you hit the gas. I have a 2014 dodge journey with about 47000 miles on it.
JA: Where exactly do you think the noise is coming from? And how long has this been going on?
Customer: Am I still chatting with someone?
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: We haven't done anything and I will take it in, but we're on vacation and it is troubling. I just wondered if this was something others have experienced with their Journey's and how serious it could be.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: The only other thing is that when you turn right especially at a low idle it's very pronounced. Just had the oil changed and tires rotated and nothing popped up.

Hi there,

Would you class your noise as a rattle or a knock?

You might have a lifter/hydraulic lash adjuster noise.

I have a had good success with "Lifter free" or "Nulon E10 or E20" for this sort of noise.

I have had noise in one engine of sisters after oil change, that the Nulon fixed.

Might save you from costly engine repair.

Knocking mostly. Are you referring to type of gasoline?

Hi again,

My question is do you think the noise you have is a mechanical knock, loud low frequency "knock" type noise, or a "ticking" type noise from valvetrain?

Was the noise there prior to the oil change?

The noise is there only at idle speed, and not while while driving at all?
