Customer Question

keyfob got stuck in the ignition. Just reading here what I could do. Ive already disconnected the battery and reconnected it. I think I need a new WIN.
JA: Can you turn the steering wheel at all? And what about the key? Is it worn or damaged?
Customer: key is worn, the steering works but hard to turn, cant shift to put into neutral.
JA: What is the model/year of your Dodge?
Customer: 2011 dodge ram 1500 laramie
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: well, I'm looking at trying myself if I can determine whats wrong I don't want to shoot in the dark. Ive tried disconnecting the battery and left that off overnight to ensure that there was no power left in the system, ive made sure that the steering wasn't locked and it is fully in park. ive also tried locking it with the metal key and unlocking thinkin that it was maybe a security thing.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: um, it locked up after my alarm went off when I opened it with the metal door key, once I put the keyfob in to start it the alarm shut off. when I turned off the vehicle it lost all power and the fob got stuck between 0(off) and 1(ACC or AAC)

Hi, welcome to Just Answer. I’m Ron and I’ll be helping you
Before we get started though, Please understand that I don't know
your skill level or tools you have to assist us. Also understand that
I can't see, smell, hear, or touch the vehicle either, so patience is
appreciated. JA is a great Q/A site, but it does NOT replace a
repair shop.
My goal is to make you happy and get a great rating in return for
my time. Sometimes I have to give you bad news that I know you
didn’t want to hear, so please don’t shoot the messenger.

Due to the wear on the steering column, your security system won't read the key right either. However, I will attach a doc that mat help you.

Thankls, Ron
