1996 dodge Dakota two wheel drive automatic. I can start it

Customer Question

1996 dodge Dakota two wheel drive automatic.
I can start it
Put it in gear and it ingages and pulls out real strong.
Reverse drive first second all ingage really good.
Drive it about ten minutes and ......
Starts slipping won't go anywhere
Checked the fluid its full
Let it set for awhile and start it again and it ingages and will move 500 feet or so then nothing
Let it set and it does it again
Just put this transmission in.
The old one was doing the same thing
Thought it was bad so replaced it.
The old one was black nasty inside
The one in it now was clean.
Put it in it ran great drove it maybe 50 miles before this started again
Literly it engages right off no problem then like without any warning it just stops moving like its slipping and won't ingage at all.

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

This is happening because line pressure is dropping because of a restricted filter. The problem may be debris in this trans because of it's own failure or the problem may be from lack of flushing the cooler and debris from the last transmission is now in this one.

Was the cooler not flushed and flow checked?
