2002 dodge Dakota 4x4...on the automatic transmission,

Customer Question

2002 dodge Dakota 4x4...on the automatic transmission, I'm getting a little "slip" in second way I can describe it is after it shifts into second, about 7 or 8 seconds later it the motor revs up and it feels like its in neutral...then engages and runs fine...other gears are issues...ive replaced the fluid and filter...someone suggested the shift solenoid being faulty? Where is this solenoid located and could that be an issue? Is there a way to test this?

They are located on the valve body they are not external , you have take the valve body out .

If you take it some where with a capable scanner you can test those solenoids with out taking it out , i have a scanner like that at my shop dont have to be dealer ?

how the fluid look like when you changed it , any metal shavings in it ?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
it had some deposit on the magnet in the bottom of the pan...the fluid was really was slipping worse before I changed the fluid and filter...since then the issue has become way less, but still an issue...I do have a scanner...its a pro link ultra...

how many miles on truck

can you pull up solenoids and turn them on & off with it

the fact you found metal shaving and dark is not good , if the trans clutches are slipping it will cause this issue

you gave it some life by the trans service you did , but she is slipping , does get worse the more you drive it?

does any codes pop up & what are they ?
