Dodge Dakota: I have a 96 3.9L V6 MFI Dodge Dakota SLT. My

Customer Question

I have a 96 3.9L V6 MFI Dodge Dakota SLT. My speedometer reads exactly ten miles over whatever speed i am really going. I've checked it with GPS and with another driver behind me. What could be causing this and how do I adjust/fix the gauge?

Hi Drew,Does your vehicle have the factory wheels and tyres, if not what size are they now?Gary

I believe so. The truck has 15 inch chrome Dodge rims, and 225/75/15 tires

Hi Drew,I was hoping you had some larger than stock tyres. What speed does this error of 10mph start at? 30mph?You say it reads 10mph higher at any speed, so 30 is really 20, 40 is really 30, 50 is really 40 etc?Gary

Yes sir. All the way up the gaige

Hi Drew,I would class that as being a fault within the speedo rather than a ECM programming or cluster programming fault.I would try another cluster as a test first, then decide on whether you get yours repaired or the donor odometer reset to equal your current reading.Gary
