1997 Dodge Grand Caravan, started with with wipers

Customer Question

1997 Dodge Grand Caravan , started with with wipers sporadically coming on, then periodically engine would turn over wouldn't start... Open hood bang on censor controll box, it would start.... Or the dash. Now, Van dies while driving, can't restart and BCAA checked and there was no spark..... Waited 10 minutes and Van started ???? I feel the Van is not safe to drive.Have spent over $1000. At budget brake & muffler and Chrysler dealership .... Not resolved. Hesitate to pay any more without guarantee of resolving .

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

If the engine does crank but there is no spark then odds are you're missing cam or crank sensor signal. It could be an issue with the ASD circuit or coil drivers but it's more likely to be a loss of cam or crank signal. Wiring issues are possible but the sensors themselves would be more likely.

What has been done to try and repair the loss of spark?

Which engine do you have?

3.8 litre..... Chrysler dealer and budget brake and muffler hooked engine up to computer.... No indication of cam or crank sensor issues, and ACD and coil circuits seemed ok ....... It's a mystery .

I will thanks.... Must be a short in wiring. Apparently there's a short spark as ignition is turned off ????? Totally weird .

It's possible that there could be a wiring issue but it's more likely to be a cam or crank sensor issue.

Unfortunately not # ***** cam or crank sensor. Told dealer not to do any more labour.... Guess it's wiring somewhere . Can't afford anymore $$ on it.

It's possible that there is a wiring issue with the cam or crank sensor preventing their signal from reaching the PCM.
