It's possible that you could have an engine performance issue such as a bad idle air control motor, but the problem may be with the trans. If you're able to keep it running with throttle then the IAC is the most likely cause.

I expect the torque converter clutch is coming on though. If the converter clutch comes on at a stop then it will drag the engine down quickly and kill it with the same feel as letting out on the clutch with a manual trans while still holding the brake. Is that what you're feeling?
