Mercedes Benz tech may have to answer... 07 sprinter 3.0

Customer Question

Mercedes Benz tech may have to answer...
07 sprinter 3.0 smoking white, no oil in coolant, coolant level not low, engine oil not low or high, but tranny is low, wierd shifts long time to engage etc, maybe due to level, but smoke stated same time.
Tranny fluid recent change, exact amount put in as taken out, van has 1.25 MM miles, religious maintenance, not what Mercedes recommend but it's gotten this far with it...
Question is this, does the tranny use any vacuum that could be pulling tranny fluid into the engine at some point? It appears MB uses a vacuum pump on these diesels, hopefully this will be something seen before as these sprinters can be difficult to diagnose. And the tranny has no leaks, bone dry.
Is there an app that will work with a Bluetooth OBDii to get codes?
Thanks, Jake

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

There isn't any correlation between the trans issue and the smoke. The trans is electrically controlled and there is no vacuum; diesel engines don't produce vacuum in the intake because there is no throttle blade so there wouldn't be a way for trans fluid to enter the engine if there was indeed vacuum going to the trans.

How was the trans fluid level verified?

Is the engine light coming on?

Are there any driveability issues?
