I have a 2003 Ram 1500, VIN 1D7HU16N83J613441 - 85,000

Customer Question

Hi Chris. I have a 2003 Ram 1500, VIN 1D7HU16N83J613441 - 85,000 Miles. The radio will work for about 10 seconds, and then I get nothing but hiss. The CD player works fine. You think it might be something with the antenna?Jim

Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

If it's an actual hissing noise that you're hearing then it's going to be an internal issue in the radio or in the amp if it has the optional amp, but it wouldn't be an amp issue if the problem isn't present when listening to a CD at the same time the issue is present on FM.

Is it actually hissing or does it not have reception?

I took the antenna off yesterday and checked that. Now I have nothing but static. Has to be an antenna issue.

It's static, not a hiss?

What exactly was done to check the antenna?
