2001 Dodge Dakota, Extended Cab, V6, Cruise Control rough

Customer Question

2001 Dodge Dakota, Extended Cab, V6, Cruise Control rough down shift to a lower gear than needed on a grade doing 50 - 60MPH. When only using Foot Throttle it is a smooth shift to the next lower gear. What is the problem? Throttle Sensor, Cruise Control, or Transmission?

In cases like this that i have come across, its the TPS (throttle position sensor) that is at fault. It is VERY sensitive to throttle position and when in cruise control mode it reacts a LOT more than during normal foot acceleration. I suggest replacing it.
