Customer Question

My 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 w/ V8 Magnum (only 42,000 original miles) has a squealing noise when engine temp goes over 200 degrees. This squeal stops when accelerating. I have also noticed that when I check the coolant level (cold engine) that coolant leaks out the top even though the truck is facing uphill.

Hi, this issue sounds like your serpentine belt tensioner is getting weak. The fan clutch locks up when it gets hot and puts more load on the belt. The spring in the tensioner might be strong enough to keep the belt from slipping before the fan clutch locks but not after it locks. I'd put a new serp belt tensioner on it.
