Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!
It will take some electrical testing at the time the problem is happening to know exactly what is going on.
If it started and died then I would suspect the communication bus is totally down, but if it simply doesn't crank along with a no bus message then the powertrain control module is down. The PCM is the module that controls all engine functions.
The problem could be wiring, connections, or an internal failure in the PCM. If nothing can be found with a visual inspection or by wiggle testing the harness then what will need to be done is first confirm that the PCM is down when the problem happens. If so then it's powers and grounds will need to be tested before condemning it.
